Perfect for solo travel in regional Australia
Used Airbnb to explore the Hunter Valley wine region — stayed in a cottage on a vineyard that no hotel chain could ever offer. The host did a cheese and wine tasting on arrival. Absolutely magical. For regional and rural Australia, Airbnb has completely changed travel — you can stay in places that didn't have any accommodation options 10 years ago. App is smooth and payments always processed correctly.
Mixed bag — great stays and one really bad one
50 Airbnb stays over 5 years. Most have been excellent — unique places you'd never find in a hotel. But I've had one nightmare: a property that looked nothing like the photos and a host who was unreachable. Airbnb support took 3 days to resolve it and the refund process was frustrating. The platform is generally great but customer service for issues is a weak spot. Superhost properties have never let me down.
Found an incredible beach house in Noosa — total game-changer
Used Airbnb to book a beachfront house in Noosa for a week with 6 friends. The house was exactly as described, immaculately clean, and had a pool. The Airbnb platform made it easy — the host was responsive within minutes. Total cost split 6 ways was genuinely cheaper than a hotel and infinitely more comfortable. Have now used Airbnb for 15+ trips across Australia.
Customer service resolved my rebooking quickly
Flight cancelled due to weather. The Qantas app automatically offered me rebooking options and I was sorted within 20 minutes — much better than I expected. The rebooked flight left on time. Baggage arrived promptly. This is how airlines should handle disruptions. Points balance in the app is accurate and easy to track. Would fly Qantas again for longer routes.
Economy domestic — reliable but increasingly expensive
Flew Sydney to Melbourne 4 times this year. On-time performance has been solid — 3 out of 4 flights departed on time which is better than the horror stories. Cabin is clean, crew are professional. The main frustration is pricing: domestic economy has gotten expensive and the extra cost for seat selection feels nickel-and-diming. Still better than Virgin for reliability.
