Community Services certificate completed — placement support was excellent
I enrolled in the Certificate III in Individual Support (Community Services) as a career change from retail. SkillUp organised my work placement at an aged care facility, which I was worried about arranging myself. The placement coordinator called me weekly during the placement period to check in. The facility I was placed with ended up offering me casual work before I had even submitted my final assessments. The online content for the theory units was clear and accessible — I have no university background and found it entirely manageable. The assessors provided detailed feedback on my submitted assessments rather than just a pass/fail result, which genuinely helped me improve. Highly recommend for anyone considering a career in community services.
IT course content was current and industry-relevant — not outdated textbook material
Completed the Certificate IV in IT Networking through SkillUp and was surprised by how current the content was. The modules covered SD-WAN, cloud networking (AWS and Azure focus), and network security topics that are actually relevant to jobs advertised today, not textbook theory from five years ago. The live weekly Q&A sessions with the trainer were the highlight — genuine experts who answered practical questions, not just reading slides. Assessment tasks were harder than I expected, which is actually a good sign for the credential value. The online learning platform has a few UX rough edges — the progress tracking dashboard is not very intuitive. But the content quality and trainer expertise more than compensate. Landed a junior network admin role within 6 weeks of completing.
Completed Diploma of Project Management — nationally recognised, worth every dollar
I completed SkillUp Australia's Diploma of Project Management over 9 months while working full-time. The self-paced format was essential — I could study around project deadlines and adjust my weekly hours as needed. The assessments were practical, not just multiple choice. I had to submit actual project documentation for my current employer's projects (with confidential details removed), which made the learning directly applicable. My student success coach checked in every 3 weeks by phone, not just by email, which helped me stay on track when the final unit got tough. The nationally recognised certificate was accepted without question when I applied for my PM lead role. The Smart and Skilled government funding saved me approximately $4,200.
